Her Story | Defining women in astronomy (event at Stardome featuring JJ Eldridge)

In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and the IAU 100 years of Astronomy, Stardome Observatory and Planetarium ispleased to present Her Story – Defining Women in Astronomy in partnership with the Auckland Astronomical Society – an evening dedicated to discussing all things astronomy, women, science communication, and inclusion.

Join Dr. JJ Eldridge from the Department of Physics, alongside Dr. Pauline Harris and Jennie McCormick as they share with us their incredible stories and journeys that have led them to become some of the most defining kiwi women currently working in the science field.

The evening will begin with a short planetarium night sky show where you’ll explore the stars, constellations and planets visible above Auckland in February.

You’ll then get the chance to meet our guests and hear about the work they are currently doing, followed by a joint panel discussion, where we will discuss all things space, science, astronomy accessibility and being a woman in the industry.

You can also participate in an “Ask Me Anything” segment with our guests, have the chance to network, and find out more about potential pathways on how you too can follow in our guests’ steps.

The evening is aimed at anyone who aspires to work in STEM but isn’t too sure how to get there; those who are already working in STEM and would like to meet others in similar fields; and to anyone who would simply like to celebrate the full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.

ALL WELCOME. BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL. Limited seats. Tickets include one drink and snacks. (Alcoholic beverages served to those over 18 with valid ID)
