Research work is focused on atmospheric turbulence and wind profiling within turbulent boundary layers. Experimental work included development of new technologies relating to visualisation of aircraft wing-tip vortices (related to hazard avoidance, particularly with the new Airbus A380), fine-scale measurement of vertical profiles of turbulent transport in polar regions (related to climate change), measurement of atmosphere-surface exchange processes in urban environments (related to climate change), and high-accuracy routine profiling of wind speed and direction for wind-energy applications. Theoretical work included methodologies for estimating rate of decay of hazardous vortices, modeling turbulent scattering of acoustic linear-chirp signals, and modeling sound propagation in the atmosphere.
