Microlensing observations in astrophysics group

Microlensing Observations in Astrophysics Group

The Microlensing Observations in Astrophysics (MOA) Group contributed to the first measurement of the abundance of Neptune-like planets. Associate Professor Philip Yock developed software for the analysis of measurements on a cluster computer in association with a visiting postdoc and assisted with all facets of the MOA project throughout the year. Reviews of MOA were written for NZ Geographic and the NZ Astronomical Yearbook. A conference on gravitational microlensing was organised in Japan. A paper on the most Earth-like planet yet found orbiting a star was published in Nature. The latter made Nature's top 10 list of most popular articles for 2006.
