Here at the Department of Physics we offer a number of courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, to find out more, visit or contact us via the information below.
The Department of Physics operates well equipped teaching laboratories for undergraduate physics courses. We also offer substantial service facilities for teaching and research including mechanical and electronic workshops, printed circuit development facilities, electrical standards data, computer laboratories and a fast computer cluster used for quantum optics research.
Close contact is maintained with other research organisations in New Zealand and overseas. Our staff maintain worldwide contact, often through collaborative research projects, with many research workers in areas of common interest.
The Physics Department offices and reception are located in the Science Centre on the corner of Princes and Wellesley streets, the department’s teaching laboratories and lecture theatres are located on the ground floor. Research laboratories are in the basement. Meteorological research is conducted at a nearby field site which is the location of our weather radar systems.
